Click to expand.I just tried this on my Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop with Vista, and it works I tried it on XP and Windoze 7, also works.BUT, if the motherboard has been replaced, the Service Tag field will be empty, unless the Tech takes the time to reprogram it, and that rarely happens.wmic is a Windows Mgmt Interface command in the C:WindowsSystem32wbem directory. If the command isn't working, the wbem.exe file might be missing from that location.This isn't a Dell-specific utility, it works on any unit.
I tried it on my clone-zilla box, and that field wasn't filled in, the response told me.

Windows 8.1 product key for Dell Inspiron 5555. My system info Inspiron 5555 Service Tag: Express Service Code: I downloaded Dell recovery image but it stuck at Windows 8.1 product key. It seem the windows product key is on the motherboard but the installation procedure can't read it. Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of the Inspiron. If the current user is not the original Inspiron owner, Dell will transfer the used Inspiron's registration from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.
