The unit is quiet, quick to deliver hot water, and I see no perceivable difference in flow-rate from old water heater to this new tankless unit.As far as installation specifics, it took a full 5 hours to remove the water heater and plumb in the new tankless unit. A lot of that time was spent re-plumbing the water lines, switching from the standard top input and outputs on the water heater to the bottom connections on the tankless unit. Additionally some time was spent on the gas line, removing the ¾'x½'x½' tee input, W/H, Furnace and replacing it with a ¾' sediment-trap connected to a ¾'x¾'x½' tee, since the tankless requires a ¾' feed and can use 199,000 BTU/H. Note: I called local gas supplier and verified my meter supported 350,000 BTU/H, so no change was.
I waited to write my review until I received the updated gas bill. Things on that side seem good. We're saving money. We can take as many showers in a row as needed. As another reviewer said you can hear the fan running. This can be a positive or negative I guess.
On the positive you are aware that you are using gas with the sound. On the negative the sound is kind of a drone that could get annoying.
Overall I like the unit and it freed up some space compared to the 50 gallon tank we had. I did not install our unit so I can't say that it is or is not easy to install however the crew (2 guys) that installed mine took at least 4 hours.
Overall I would recommend this unit. I've installed this 8.4GPM heater in our new smaller home. Everyone that has seen it asks 'What's that?'
They can't figure out how a water heater can be mounted on a wall 6' from the floor (10' ceiling). This gives me room for a 5'tall cabinet underneath it, adding more storage to our downsized living space. The heater works perfectly each time it's called on; and not until it's called on. It still takes time to get from the heater to the kitchen faucet which is 40' of pipe away. The traditional heater wouldn't be any faster.
It takes only seconds to get to the washer or the bathroom which are only 4' or 12' of pipe away. I'm not a professional plumber but didn't need to be. It was an easy install for someone with a little do it yourself mentality. The only downside, in my way of thinking. Bought one and installed myself about 6 weeks ago. The installation is relatively straight forward if you do your homework. With that said, this is not a typical DIY job in a day.

I had the 'luxury' of re-plumbing our house at the same time which let me get everything setup before I ran water to it.Initial thoughts:Pros:-small footprint. Always a selling point for these units. You can run close tolerances if you are closing it in. However, you will need space above and below. Above for the vent, below for all the gas/water pipes. When it was all said and done, even with just an elbow the total height from top of elbow to bottom of pipes was around 4 1/2 feet.-only burns gas when you use it.-can be vented in places conventional heaters can't.
